Practice Setting
Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit - 24-bed unit caring for high acuity cardiac patients suffering with both medical and surgical diagnoses. Recover and manage post-surgery patients who underwent coronary artery bypass graphing, valve replacement, or aneurysm repair. Patients may be cannulated for ECMO, or have device placement such as an Impella, IABP, CRRT, or Zoll. We care for patients after a STEMI/N-STEMI who may have received a PCI.
Preceptorship Description
Night shift on a 24-bed Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit caring for high acuity cardiac patients suffering with both medical and surgical diagnoses. Recover and manage post-surgery patients who underwent coronary artery bypass graphing, valve replacement, or aneurysm repair. Patients may be cannulated for ECMO, or have device placement such as an Impella, IABP, CRRT, or Zoll. We care for patients after a STEMI/N-STEMI who may have received a PCI. A student would have ample opportunity for hands-on experience with such patients. Titration and understanding of vasoactive medications, high-risk medication administration, EKG interpretation, lab value comprehension and application in a high-paced critical care environment.
